1655‐1716 Historian of the Ottoman Empire. His real name was Mustafa Naim. He was born in Aleppo, Syria, as the son of a Janissary corps member. He later went to Istanbul to serve at the royal court, and then held various positions as a practical official, including as a court historian. He wrote a chronicle of the Ottoman dynasty covering the period from 1591 to 1659. This chronicle, commonly known as the Naima, is considered a masterpiece among chronicles due to its sound historical perspective and rigorous criticism of historical sources.
