...A mushroom (illustration) of the family Chanterelles, a basidiomycete order that grows mainly in coniferous forests. It is an edible fungus with a beautiful egg-yellow color and excellent flavor. It is 3-8 cm tall, with a nearly circular cap about 3-8 cm in diameter, with shallowly lobed and wavy edges. The stem is nearly cylindrical, and often grows slightly off center of the cap. The underside of the cap has radially arranged wrinkled folds, and spores are produced on the surface. The spores are oval, colorless, and smooth-surfaced.
