...A hallucinogenic drug widely used by the indigenous peoples of the Amazon in South America to recreate their mythical world and to enhance the unity of their worldview. The vines of the Banisteriopsis caapi and B. inebrians family, as well as the decoction made from them, are called ayahuasca (vine of the soul) in Peruvian Quechua. However, in Peruvian Pano it is called rami, in Brazil caapi, and in Colombia yagé.
