Order: Chiroptera, Family: Pteridae. Also known simply as the flying fox. Body length: 19-23 cm, forearm length: 12-15 cm. It has long, brown fur and a dull yellow or yellowish-white collar. It has a long, protruding snout and large eyes. It is nocturnal, and during the day it hangs from tree branches in groups to rest. It feeds mainly on fruit, including mulberries, bananas, and pineapples, and often causes damage to orchards. It is found in the southwestern islands of Japan and Taiwan.
