Osado Mountains - Osadosanchi

The landform mountain range occupies the northern half of Sado Island in Niigata Prefecture. The mountain is composed of Tertiary andesite, and its highest peak, Kinpokusan (1,172 meters), is a famous mountain that stands in the center of the range and is a sacred mountain worshipped by the islanders. The summit is now a radar base for the Self-Defense Forces. The Osado Skyline runs along the ridge in the southern half, and is served by tourist buses as an observation deck on the island. The view from Hakuundai near the top of Myokensan (1,042 meters) is also wonderful. The northern foothills coast is a magnificent scenic coastal area called Sotokaifu Kaigan, designated as a national place of scenic beauty, and included in the Sado-Yahiko-Yoneyama Quasi-National Park. The coastline from Washizaki in the north to Ryotsu Port is called Uchikaifu Coast, and is lined with fishing villages. Mt. Donden, located north of Mt. Kinpoku, is famous as a highland campsite.

新潟県佐渡島の北半を占める地塁山地。山体は第三紀層の安山岩類から構成され、最高峰の金北(きんぽく)山（1172メートル）は山地の中央にそびえる名山で、島民の信仰の霊峰をなす。いまは頂上は自衛隊のレーダー基地になっている。南半の尾根筋には大佐渡スカイラインが走り、島の展望台として観光バスの便がある。また妙見(みょうけん)山（1042メートル）頂付近の白雲台からの展望もすばらしい。北部山麓(さんろく)海岸は外海府海岸(そとかいふかいがん)とよばれる雄大な海岸景勝地で、国の名勝に指定され、佐渡弥彦米山国定公園(さどやひこよねやまこくていこうえん)に含まれている。北端鷲崎(わしざき)から両津(りょうつ)港までの海岸は内海府海岸(うちかいふかいがん)とよばれ、純漁村集落が並ぶ。金北山の北にあるドンデン山は高原キャンプ場として名高い。
