Hara

Japanese: 原 - はら
Hara
[1] 〘 noun 〙① A flat and wide place. Especially, uncultivated flat land. Plain. ※10-volume Wamyosho (c. 934) 1 "Hara-ke-shi-un Takahira-i-hara (Japanese name : Hara) " ② Forest. ※Shoki (720) Tenmu 7th year October (Kanbun version) "Floating with the wind in the pine forest and reeds " [2] Place name of Numazu City, Shizuoka Prefecture. In the Edo period, it was a post station between Numazu and Yoshiwara on the Tokaido 53 Stations. [Etymology] In ancient times, there were few examples of its use alone, and it often appears in compound forms such as "Hagihara", "Sugihara", "Ama-no-hara", "Takamagahara", "Kiyomihara", and "Mimihara". Therefore, "hara" is not a word referring to topography or geography, but rather to a place far from everyday life, in other words, a place associated with ancient gods or a world of magical beliefs. In this respect, it is in contrast to "no (field)," which refers to a place close to everyday life.
