…It was succeeded by four different royal lines: the Sangama dynasty (1336-1485), the Sāluva dynasty (1486-1505), the Tuluva dynasty (1505-69), and the Āravīdu dynasty (1569-1649). The kingdom, said to have been founded by the two brothers Harihara and Bukka, had its capital at Vijayanagar (meaning "town of victory") near Hampi (now Bellari district, Karnataka), but was later moved to Penukonda, Chandragiri, and Vellore. The kingdom's territory was centered on the Krishna and Tungabhadra river regions, and at its peak in the early 16th century, extended to Bengal and Orissa in the east, the western Deccan region in the west, and Ceylon in the south. …
