Japanese: 韓人漢文手管始 - かんじんかんもんてくだのはじまり

Kabuki Kyogen. Historical piece. 4 acts. Commonly known as "Killing a Chinese Man." Written by Namiki Gohei I. First performed in July 1789 (Kansei 1) at the Nakayama Fukuzo-za (corner theater) in Osaka. The cast included Nakayama Tazo as Imaki Denshichi, Yoshizawa Iroha as the courtesan Takao, and Nakamura Jirozo as Nishiten no Sokuro. In December 1763 (Horeki 13), the Korean Correspondence Corps arrived in Japan. On the night of April 7, 1764, in Osaka, interpreter Suzuki Denzo killed the envoy Choi Tensou and was executed by beheading. Namiki Shozo was the first to turn this incident into a kabuki play, performing "The Helpful Cook, the Bass Knife" at the Osaka Arashi Hinasuke-za (corner theater) in February 1767 (Meiwa 4).

歌舞伎狂言。時代物。4幕。通称《唐人殺し》。初世並木五瓶作。1789年(寛政1)7月大坂中山福蔵座(角の芝居)で初演。配役は今木伝七を中山他蔵，傾城高尾を芳沢いろは，西天の宗九郎を中村治郎三。1763年(宝暦13)12月朝鮮通信史が来日。64年4月7日夜，大坂で通辞鈴木伝蔵が，使節の崔天悰（さいてんそう）を殺し，斬首の処刑を受けた。この一件を初めに歌舞伎化したのは並木正三で，67年(明和4)2月大坂嵐雛助座(角の芝居)で《世話料理鱸庖丁（すずきぼうちよう）》を上演。
