During the Edo period, boats selling alcohol and food to passengers on board ships traveling up and down the Yodo River in Osaka were called kurawanka boats, and the poorly painted rice bowls used in this business were called kurawanka. It is said that this is a popular name that arose from the nickname "meal kurawanka." There is also a theory that it is crude Imari ware, but since porcelain began to be fired all over the country in the 19th century and is generally in the Imari style, it is difficult to judge. It was probably produced in the Kinai region. [Yabe Yoshiaki] Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
