A rebellion started by Emi no Oshikatsu (Fujiwara no Nakamaro) in the Nara period. Fujiwara no Nakamaro, who had suppressed the Tachibana Naramaro Incident, supported Oino-o, who married Awata Morone, the wife of his eldest son, Masatsugu, who had died young, as Emperor Junnin, and was allowed to call himself Emi no Oshikatsu, to privately mint and issue coins, and to use the Emi family seal in public at will. He then advanced to Taiho (Minister of the Right), then Taishi (Grand Minister of State), and finally reached the rank of Shoichii, during which time he implemented various important policies imitating the Tang Dynasty of China.
