International Council for Science. An international academic organization to which the academies of science from around the world belong. The Science Council of Japan is a member representing Japan. Its main objective is to promote cooperation among international academic societies, particularly in the field of natural sciences, and to promote cooperation in international scientific activities. Founded in 1931. In 1998, the name was changed from the previous International Council of Scientific Unions, but the abbreviation ICSU remains the same. Its headquarters are in Paris.

《International Council for Science》国際科学会議。各国科学アカデミーが加盟する国際学術機関。日本からは日本学術会議が参加。特に自然科学分野における国際学術団体の協調促進および国際的科学活動の協調推進を図ることを主たる目的とする。1931年設立。1998年に以前のInternational Council of Scientific Unions（国際学術連合会議）から名称を変更したが、略称は従来のICSUがそのまま使われている。本部はパリ。
