Münsterberg - Hugo Münsterberg

Münsterberg - Hugo Münsterberg

A psychologist active in Germany and the United States. Born in Danzig, Germany. He received his doctorate from W. Bundt, but was opposed to Bundt's ideas. He then obtained his medical degree in Heidelberg and became an assistant professor of psychology in Freiburg. At the time, he was an active academic experimental psychologist, and caught the eye of W. James of Harvard University in the United States, who invited him to the university as a professor of experimental psychology (1892-1916). However, the American climate soon caused him to shift his interests from academic experimental psychology to applied psychology. In 1908, he wrote "On the Witness Stand," which suggested the relationship between the reliability of testimony and blood pressure, and in 1909, he published "Psychotherapy" and in 1910, "Psychology and the Teacher." In 1913, he wrote "Psychology and Industrial Efficiency," and in 1914, "Psychology General and Applied" and "Psychology and Social Sanity," in which he advocated the application of psychology to the law, medicine, education, industry, and social order.
