…The orchestra was named after the building where it was built, but in 1915 it was renamed the Gewerbehaus Orchestra. The orchestra was established under Paul van Kempen (1893-1955), who served as principal conductor from 1934 to 1942, and Heinz Bongartz (1894-), who re-established the orchestra after World War II. Herbert Kegel (1920-) has served as principal conductor since 1974. …
