A hilly region in northeastern Chad, northern Africa, with huge sandstone mountains scattered across the sand plains. The administrative centre is Fada. It is inhabited by a small group of camel-rearing Teda people. Many prehistoric rock paintings remain. The main ruins are Mont Fada, Archeï, Egmechina, Asimidel, Manda China and Hallagana. Most of the murals date from after the period when cattle were grazing in the region, and many of them depict people with cattle, horses or camels.
