... The genus Cytisus is a genus of more than a dozen species that have evolved mainly in Europe. They are valued as garden plants in Europe and the United States, and many horticultural varieties have been developed through breeding and selection. Young branches and leaves contain sparteine, which has a cardiotonic effect, and although it is poisonous, it is boiled and used as an antipyretic. [Ohashi Hiroyoshi]
