...Poetry from the end of the 8th century to the beginning of the 9th century showed greater diversity and ingenuity in the areas of odes and satire. In Basra and Baghdad, which took on a more secular urban atmosphere under the influence of Persian culture, a new style of poetry called the Badi' style developed, which was more rhetorically sophisticated than the previous concise style. The person who brought this new style was the blind poet Bashshār ibn Burd (c. 714-784).
