Abushibare - Abushibare

Japanese: アブシバレー - あぶしばれー
Abushibare - Abushibare

...Most annual events are held according to the lunar calendar, and even within Okinawa, the names and contents of events vary considerably between Okinawa Island and the Sakishima Islands (Miyako and Yaeyama). Major agricultural events include the wheat harvest festival in February and March, the millet and rice harvest festival in May and June, and the potato harvest festival in November, as well as the pest control ritual called Abushibare (rice field clearing) in April and the rice sowing festival called Tanetori around the beginning of winter. In Okinawa, a pig is killed at the end of the year, and New Year's Day is celebrated with pigs instead of rice cakes.
