The Sixty Chapters of Edo Masago

Japanese: 江戸真砂六十帖 - えどまさごろくじゅうじょう

Essays. Author unknown. Published around 1760. Five volumes of manuscripts. A record of unusual events that occurred in Edo that the author, who was born in 1689 (Genroku 2), witnessed. Topics include the extravagance of Ishikawa Rokubei's wife, Genroku gold dubbing, Naraya Mozaemon, Eiichicho, Eitai Bridge, Kinokuniya Bunzaemon, and the originator of actor voice tones. There is a 10-volume Hiromoto version, which is an alternate version, and includes information on Tenichibo, the direct appeal box, Ooka Echizen no Kami, Fukai Shidoken, Nihonzaemon, and the lanterns of Shin Yoshiwara. It is an excellent source of information about what Edo was like in the mid-Edo period.

随筆。作者不詳。宝暦ころ(1760ころ)成立。写本5巻。1689年(元禄2)に生まれた筆者が見聞した，江戸で起こった珍事を書き記したもの。石川六兵衛の女房の奢侈（しやし），元禄金吹替え，奈良屋茂左衛門，英一蝶，永代橋，紀伊国屋文左衛門，役者声色の元祖などを項目を掲げて記す。異本として広本10巻があり，これには天一坊，直訴箱，大岡越前守，深井志道軒，日本左衛門，新吉原の灯籠などが記されている。江戸中期の江戸の様相を知るすぐれた資料である。
