1867‐1960 A religious activist during the late Ottoman Empire and the Republic of Turkey. He was also known as Said-i Nursi or Said-i Kurdi. He wrote works such as The Book of Light (Nur) and sought to establish an Islamic state based on the Quran and Sharia (known as the Nurci Movement). He was involved in the March 31st incident in 1909, which opposed the Young Turk Revolution, but escaped the death penalty and retired to eastern Anatolia.
