German mystic. He served as a judge and archivist for the Privy Council, mainly in Bavaria, southern Germany, and was a central figure in the apocalyptic mystical movement of his time. He came into contact with Saint-Martin and Lavator, and dreamed of building a monarchy permeated with God's love, strongly appealing to the Russian emperor. He criticized Eurocentrism, advocated the observation and understanding of all things through God's wisdom, and tried to elucidate the unknown power of God and the realm of parapsychology. He produced a large number of works, including The Key to Undo Magic (1788), The Tiger of Bengal (1789), and God Is Pure Love (1790).

ドイツの神秘思想家。南ドイツのバイエルンを中心に裁判官，枢密公文書官などの公的生活を送るかたわら，当時の終末論的神秘思想運動の中心人物として活躍した。サン･マルタンやラーファターと接触し，神の愛に貫かれた君主制国家建設を夢見，ロシア皇帝に強く働きかけた。ヨーロッパ中心主義を批判し，神の知による万象の観察認識を主張，神の未知の力や超心理学の領域の解明に努力した。《魔術をとく鍵》(1788)，《ベンガルの虎》(1789)，《神は至純の愛》(1790)をはじめとして膨大な著作がある。
