The UN Disarmament Committee is a specialized agency for disarmament negotiations. It was first established under the Security Council by a resolution of the General Assembly on January 11, 1952, with 12 members, including the 11 Security Council members and Canada (11 members if Canada was a member). The UN Atomic Energy Commission and the Conventional Arms Commission were dissolved. In April 1954, due to differences in opinion between the United States and the Soviet Union, a subcommittee consisting of the United States, the Soviet Union, France, and Canada was established under the Disarmament Commission, but it ceased deliberations in September 1957 without achieving any concrete results. In November of the same year, the UN Disarmament Commission was newly composed of 25 countries, and then in 1959, all UN member states became members, but it was dormant since 1965. It was later revived as a subsidiary body of the UN General Assembly to deliberate disarmament activities as a result of the UN Special Session on Disarmament in 1978. Since 1959, substantive disarmament negotiations have been left primarily to negotiating bodies outside the United Nations, such as the Ten-Nation Disarmament Commission, the Eighteen-Nation Disarmament Commission, and the Conference on Disarmament.

国際連合の軍縮交渉専門機関。初めは 1952年1月11日の国連総会決議によって安全保障理事会のもとに設けられ，構成国は安全保障理事会の 11理事国およびカナダの 12ヵ国（カナダが理事国の場合は 11ヵ国）であった。これにより，国連の原子力委員会と通常軍備委員会は解消された。1954年4月，アメリカ合衆国とソビエト連邦の意見の相違から，軍縮委員会のもとにアメリカ，ソ連，フランス，カナダからなる小委員会が設けられたが，具体的な成果が得られぬまま 1957年9月審議を中止した。同年11月国連軍縮委員会は新たに 25ヵ国で構成されることになり，次いで 1959年から国連の全加盟国がそのメンバーとなったが，1965年以降は休眠状態であった。その後，1978年の国連軍縮特別総会の結果，軍縮活動を審議する国連総会の補助機関として復活した。1959年以降，実質的な軍縮交渉は主として国連外の交渉機関の手にゆだねられ，十ヵ国軍縮委員会，十八ヵ国軍縮委員会，軍縮会議へと引き継がれている。
