Korea (Korea) - Kan

...Its area is about 221,000 km2, roughly equivalent to the size of the United Kingdom. Since 1948, it has been divided into the southern half, the Republic of Korea (99,000 km2, population 45.23 million as of 1996), and the northern half, the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (121,000 km2, population 23.9 million as of 1996). The name Joseon was spread by the Yi Dynasty (Yi Dynasty), which ruled this region for about 500 years from the end of the 14th century, but it is believed that the name already existed before Christ, as can be seen in the passage about Jizi in the Records of the Grand Historian.
