A general term for animals in the genus Protemnodon, family Macropodidae, order Marsupialia, class Mammalia. This genus Protemnodon includes about nine small kangaroo species found in Australia, Tasmania, and New Guinea, with well-developed pouches. Size varies by species, with head and body lengths reaching 50-100 centimeters. In a broader sense, the genera Hare-wallaby, Rock-wallaby, Claw-tailed wallaby, Paddy-wallaby, and Quokka-wallaby are also referred to as wallabies.
