A city in southeastern Saitama Prefecture. Established as a city in 1959. Occupies alluvial lowlands on the north bank of the Arakawa River. It is the smallest city in Japan in terms of area, with a higher population density than the average of Tokyo's 23 wards. The city center was a post town on a mountain road in the early modern period, and since the opening of Warabi Station on the Tohoku Main Line in 1893, it has developed as a suburb of Tokyo. A mini industrial park was created, and the number of chemical, printing, and communications equipment factories has rapidly increased, and residential development has also become prominent.
