〘名〙① 神殿や仏殿の軒先などにつるす円形・中空で、下方が横長にさけている銅製の具。その前につるした太い緒で打ち鳴らす。わにの口。わにぐち。〔新令字解(1868)〕② わにの口。非常に危険な状況に陥ることのたとえ。※信長記(1622)三「天眼くらからず神明加護をなすゆへにや、かかる鰐口(ガクコウ)虎兕の舌をもまぬかれたまひけるとかや」
