A town in Soraku County in the southeastern part of Kyoto Prefecture. It occupies the basin of the Wazuka River, a tributary of the Kizu River. There is little flat land, and the mountain slopes are used for tea plantations. Sencha production is particularly popular. Forestry is thriving in Yufune, upstream of the Wazuka River. Mount Jubu, towering to the north, is home to Kontai-ji Temple, which has been called "Northern Daimine" in contrast to Mount Omine in Nara and has long been a sacred mountain site.
