The Economist

The Economist

Published every Saturday in the UK, it is the world's oldest and most authoritative economic magazine. It was first published in 1843. It covers a wide range of topics, not just economics, but also politics, society, commerce, and agriculture. Its tone is somewhat conservative, but it is politically independent, insightful, and objective. It has a circulation of about one million copies (2004), and has a significant influence on intellectuals not only in the UK but all over the world. Following this model, Japan also launched the Tokyo Keizai Zasshi in 1879 (Meiji 12), and the weekly magazine of the same name, The Economist, in 1923 (Taisho 12).
