Unforgettable People - Unforgettable People

Japanese: 忘れえぬ人々 - わすれえぬひとびと
Unforgettable People - Unforgettable People
A short story by Kunikida Doppo. Published in Kokumin no Tomo in April 1898 (Meiji 31). The story is told by an unknown writer, Otsu, to an aspiring artist, Akiyama, who happens to be staying at the Kameya Inn in Mizonokuchi (now Kawasaki City). Unlike his parents, siblings, or teachers, Otsu would not be lacking in obligation if he were to forget some people, but strangely, there are some people he cannot forget. These include a fisherman from a lonely island he saw from the deck of a steamship traveling through the Seto Inland Sea, a horseman he saw at the foot of Mount Aso, and a biwa monk he saw at Mitsugahama in Shikoku.
