Aglaonema - Aglaonema

A perennial plant of the Araceae family (APG classification: Araceae). It is mainly found in Southeast Asia. Most species are short, but some species can grow to 1 meter, and the stem grows slightly with each new leaf. It has elliptical leaves with long petioles, and of these, more than 10 species with beautiful patterns are cultivated as ornamental plants. Representative examples include the species with leaves that grow directly from the base of the plant, the gray-green Robelini, the yellow-green Pseudobracteatum, the beautiful Silver Queen, the velvety Pictum, and the green bamboo, also known as Chinese evergreen. It is sensitive to cold and needs to be kept at 15°C or higher in winter. It is propagated by cuttings and division.

サトイモ科（APG分類：サトイモ科）の多年草。おもに東南アジアに産する。丈の低い種類が多いが、1メートルになる種類もあり、新しい葉が出るごとに茎が少しずつ伸びる。葉柄の長い楕円(だえん)状の葉がつき、このうち模様の美しいもの10種以上が観葉植物として栽培される。代表的なものは、株元から直接葉が出る種類ではセスジグサ、また茎の先で葉が広がる種類では、灰緑色のロベリニィ、黄緑色のプセウド・ブラクテアタム、美しいシルバー・クイン、ビロード状のピクタム、チャイニーズ・エバーグリーンの名でよばれるリョクチク（緑竹）などである。寒さに弱く冬季は15℃以上に保つ必要がある。繁殖は挿木と株分けによる。
