Thai military officer and politician. Graduated from the Military Academy in 1928. In 1947, he participated in a coup with Phibun to overthrow the left-wing People's Party Pridi government. In 1951, he suppressed a naval coup and emerged as a powerful figure. In 1954, he was appointed Army Commander and Deputy Minister of Defense, and was promoted to Field Marshal. In September 1957, he ousted Phibun in a coup and became Commander-in-Chief of the three services. In October 1958, he abolished the constitution in a second coup, dissolved parliament, and established a military dictatorship. In 1959, he became Prime Minister.
