Young people's dance - Wakashuodori

Japanese: 若衆踊 - わかしゅおどり

(1) A type of Furyu dance that was popular in Kyoto in the late Middle Ages. It was a dance performed mainly by young people, who competed over the best costumes and props. At the time, there were also many performing arts troupes of young men performing Noh, Kyogen, and dance, which gave birth to Wakashu Kabuki, but the main art form was young men's dance that also included elements of dance, and well-known dances include Soodori, Narihiraodori, and Daisho-no-mai. (2) A type of court dance in the Ryukyus. Boys dance in a long-sleeved kimono with a red haori coat and red tabi socks.

(1)中世末期に京都を中心に流行した風流（ふりゆう）踊の一種。若者が中心の踊りで，衣装や造り物の趣向を競った。また当時，若衆による能，狂言，踊りなどの芸能一座も頻出し，それらが母体となって若衆歌舞伎が生まれるが，その中心芸は舞の要素も加えた若衆の踊りで，総踊や業平躍（なりひらおどり），大小の舞などが知られる。(2)琉球の宮廷舞踊の一つ。少年が振袖袷衣装に赤地の引羽織をつけ，緋紗綾（さや）の足袋をはいて踊る。
