In industry, molten sodium is reacted with ammonia at 300-400°C to produce sodium amide, which is then reacted with carbon to produce sodium cyanamide, which is then heated to 700°C to convert it into sodium cyanide (Castner process). It can also be produced by the reaction of hydrocyanic acid and sodium hydroxide. …
