Around 1456 - 1537
A Florentine painter. He was a fellow disciple of Leonardo da Vinci in the Verrocchio workshop, and later became his master's faithful assistant. He completed many commissions in Florence, mainly altarpieces, but his style was not unique and is often difficult to distinguish from the earlier works of Verrocchio and Leonardo. He is said to have been influenced by G. Savonarola towards the end of the 15th century and abandoned his own works with secular themes. [Suzuki Tokiko]

フィレンツェの画家。ベロッキオの工房でレオナルド･ダ･ビンチの兄弟弟子であり，後に師の忠実な助手となる。フィレンツェで祭壇画を中心として多くの注文をこなしたが，その作風は個性的ではなく，しばしばベロッキオやレオナルドの初期作品と区別しがたい。15世紀末ごろG.サボナローラの影響を受け，世俗的主題の自作を破棄したといわれる。【鈴木杜幾子】
