Around 1456 - 1537 A Florentine painter. He was a fellow disciple of Leonardo da Vinci in the Verrocchio workshop, and later became his master's faithful assistant. He completed many commissions in Florence, mainly altarpieces, but his style was not unique and is often difficult to distinguish from the earlier works of Verrocchio and Leonardo. He is said to have been influenced by G. Savonarola towards the end of the 15th century and abandoned his own works with secular themes.
