Lightning Rivera (English name) Stethojulis interrupta terina

Japanese: カミナリベラ（英語表記）Stethojulis interrupta terina

Order Perciformes, family Labridae. Total length reaches 14cm. Body is elongated and laterally compressed. Formerly known as the rainbow wrasse, this species was a male. Body color is reddish brown. Males have a bluish-white line that runs from the tip of the snout to below the eyes and reaches the rear end of the gill cover. Often found near the border between rocky reefs and sandy areas. Distributed south of Chiba and Shimane prefectures, and in the western Pacific Ocean. Very commonly seen off the southern coast of Honshu.

スズキ目ベラ科。全長 14cmになる。体は延長し側扁する。以前にニジベラと呼ばれていたのは本種の雄である。体色は帯赤褐色。雄では，吻端より眼下を通り，鰓蓋の後端に達する帯青白線がある。岩礁と砂地の境界付近に多い。千葉県・島根県以南，西部太平洋に分布する。本州南岸ではごく普通にみられる。
