Italian brother painters. Pietro Lorenzetti (?-c. 1348) and Ambrogio L. (?-c. 1348). The former is thought to be the older brother. Along with S. Martini, he belongs to the second generation of the Sienese school after Duccio di Buoninsegna. Pietro's religious paintings are characterized by a tranquil atmosphere, combining abstract figures with emphasized contours using line drawing typical of the Sienese school with Giotto-style spatial expression with depth, as seen in his murals in the lower chapel of San Francesco in Assisi (1320s-1330s) and his Madonna and Child on the Throne (1340, Uffizi Gallery).

イタリアの画家兄弟。ピエトロPietro Lorenzetti(？‐1348ころ)とアンブロージョAmbrogio L.(？‐1348ころ)。前者が兄と考えられる。S.マルティーニと並んで，ドゥッチョ･ディ･ブオニンセーニャに次ぐシエナ派の第2世代に属する。ピエトロはアッシジのサン･フランチェスコ教会下堂の壁画(1320～30年代)や《玉座の聖母子》(1340年，ウフィツィ美術館)などに見られるように，シエナ派特有の線描で輪郭を強調した抽象化された形態の人物に，ジョット風の奥行きのある空間表現を組み合わせた，静謐な雰囲気の宗教画を特色とする。
