The capital of Aveyron department in southwestern France. Also called Rodès. Population 24,368 (1982). Many historical buildings remain, especially Notre Dame Cathedral, located in the center of the city. Construction of the cathedral began around 1277 under the influence of the High Gothic (Rayonnan) style of the Île-de-France. The nave and transepts were built in the 15th century, the west facade, which has a fortress-like appearance, was built in 1500, and the beautiful tower on the north wall of the sanctuary was finally completed between 1510 and 1526. フランス南西部,アベーロン県の県都。ロデスともいう。人口2万4368(1982)。歴史的建造物が多く残り,とくに市の中心に位置するノートル・ダム大聖堂が知られる。同大聖堂は1277年ごろイル・ド・フランスの盛期ゴシック(レーヨナン)様式の影響下に着工され,内陣の放射状祭室は14世紀初頭,身廊,トランセプト(交差廊)は15世紀,要塞にも似た威容を誇る西正面は1500年,内陣北壁の美しい塔はようやく1510‐26年に完工をみた。
