Rockford

Located in northern Illinois, USA, on the Rock River, it is the second largest city in the state. Population 150,115 (2000). Over 700 types of manufacturing industries developed here, including machine tools, screws, bolts, paint, pharmaceuticals, automobiles, and leather, but these industries declined in the 1980s, and high unemployment became a problem. With a large agricultural area at its back, it is also important as a trading center for agricultural products. The town was founded in 1834, and city ordinances were implemented in 1852. There are many parks and green spaces within the city limits, and sports and recreation facilities are well-developed. There are many residents of Swedish descent.

アメリカ合衆国、イリノイ州北部、ロック川に臨む同州第二の都市。人口15万0115（2000）。工作機械、ねじ、ボルト、ペンキ、医薬品、自動車、皮革など700種以上の製造業が発達したが、1980年代にこれらの産業が衰退し、高い失業率が問題になった。大規模な農業地帯を後背にもち、農産物の取引地としても重要である。1834年に町が建設され、52年より市制が施行された。市域には公園や緑地も多く、スポーツ・レクリエーション施設が整備されている。スウェーデン系住民が多い。
