A business and entertainment center consisting of a group of skyscrapers in Manhattan, New York. It is known for its clear and functional design and urban planning for high-density areas. Rockefeller II, who aimed to create a "city within a city," commissioned Wallace Kirkman Harrison (1895-1981) and others to design it, and it was completed in 1947 after 16 years of construction, around the time of the Great Depression. Thirteen buildings, clad in limestone and with a unified exterior, are lined up on three sides of a long, narrow plaza, forming a harmonious group of buildings.
