A haiku poet of the mid-Edo period. Naito clan. Born in the Sakurada residence in Edo as the second son of Yoshiyasu Naito (pen name Fuko), a feudal lord of Iwaki-taira, Oshu (Fukushima Prefecture) with a fief of 70,000 koku. A member of the Soin school. At the tender age of 18, Tsuyuzen contributed 45 haiku to the haiku anthology "Sakuragawa," compiled by his father Fuko and published in 1674 (Enpo 2), demonstrating his precocious maturity. After retiring from the profession at the age of 28 in 1682 (Tenwa 2), he approached the Sho school, and his name can often be seen in the haiku books of the Sho school, including "Minashiguri," compiled by Kikaku and published in 1683. Basho also wrote the poem "It was winter, and I was traveling through the plains," in his "Oi no Kobumi," and wrote, "This poem was given to me by Lord Tsuyuzen." His disciples included Sendoku and Senryo. He died in Iwaki in the 18th year of the Kyoho era. He was 79 years old.
