Rokusho (green-blue)

Japanese: ロクショウ(緑青) - ろくしょう

The blue-green rust that forms on the surface of copper or copper alloys is generally called "rokusho." When it is formed in the air, it is a basic copper carbonate of various compositions (CuCO ₃ · Cu(OH) ₂ , etc.), the same as malachite. When sulfurous acid gas is present in the air, it becomes basic copper sulfate CuSO ₄ · 3Cu(OH) ₂ , and when exposed to salt, it also becomes copper chloride CuCl ₂ or CuCl ₂ · 3Cu(OH) _2. Most of them are toxic. It is also used as a blue-green pigment.

銅または銅合金の表面に生ずる青緑色のさびのことを一般にロクショウという。空気中で生ずるものは種々の組成の塩基性炭酸銅（CuCO₃・Cu（OH）₂など）であって，クジャク石と同じ。亜硫酸ガスが空気に含まれるときは塩基性硫酸銅CuSO₄・3Cu（OH）₂，塩分におかされるときは塩化銅CuCl₂やCuCl₂・3Cu（OH）₂なども成分となる。多くは有毒。青緑色顔料にも使用。
