Japanese: 留萌[市] - るもい

A city facing the Sea of Japan in northwest Hokkaido. Incorporated as a city in 1947, it is the location of the Rumoi Subprefectural Bureau. The central city, where the Rumoi Main Line runs, once thrived on herring fishing, but a sharp decline in herring has led to it being converted into a base for offshore and coastal fishing. The Musashi Seamount offshore is a good fishing ground for pollock, salmon, trout, cod, kelp, and other fish, and seafood processing is also carried out. In agriculture, the city produces rice, beans, and potatoes. It is the gateway to tourist destinations on the west coast of Hokkaido, including Teuri-Yagishiri Quasi-National Park. ^{297.83 km2} . 北海道北西部，日本海に面する市。1947年市制。留萌振興局所在地。留萌本線が通じる中心市街は，かつてニシン漁で栄えたが，ニシンの激減で沖合・沿岸漁業基地に転換。沖の武蔵堆(むさしたい)は好漁場で，スケトウダラ，サケ，マス，タラ，コンブなどを漁獲し，水産加工も行われる。農業では米，豆類，ジャガイモを産する。天売焼尻国定公園など，北海道西岸の観光地への玄関口にあたる。297.83km²。２万4457人（2010）。
