Rokujo family

A waka master family from the Middle Ages. They are also called the Rokujo Fujiwara family to distinguish them from the Rokujo Genke family of Minamoto no Tsunenobu and Toshiyori. The family was founded by Akisue of the Sueshige line of the Fujiwara clan, who was a favorite of Emperor Shirakawa. The family's residence was in Rokujo Higashinotoin, and the residence of his son Akisuke was in Rokujo Omiya, hence the name. The heyday of the family was during the time of Akisuke, who selected "Shikashū," and his son Kiyosuke, who wrote "Ogisho" and "Fukurozōshi," but it was gradually overwhelmed by the Mikohidari family and lost influence after the death of Akisuke's adopted son, Kenshō. In the Kamakura period, it produced poets such as Yukiie, one of the compilers of "Zoku Kokinshū," who took an anti-Mikohidari stance, and maintained a certain degree of authority, but it gradually declined and was discontinued during the Nanboku-chō period.
