In China, the title of model worker is given to those who have achieved outstanding results in production and technological development in various fields. It began in the Yan'an Liberation Zone in the 1940s, modeled on the Stakhanov Movement in the Soviet Union, in order to increase production. Those who have achieved particularly outstanding results are called national model workers, and those who have achieved less are given this title at the province, city, autonomous region, or company level. Model workers function as models in each field. Therefore, models that reflect the demands of each period and era are selected. In the agricultural field, models among model workers include Wu Manyou, a wealthy farmer in the Yan'an era, Li Shunda, who worked to organize rural areas immediately after the land reform, Chen Yongkang, a dedicated individual farmer, Wang Fan, who led struggling farmers to form cooperatives during the cooperative formation period in 1955 and 1956, and Chen Yonggui, who led village construction without relying on the country during the 1960s when China was internationally isolated. These reflect the times.
