A type of lighting item. Made mainly from paraffin, stearin, solid fat, and wax, the candle core is made into a cylindrical shape using cotton thread, a wick, and paper string, and the tip of the candle core is lit and placed in a lighting fixture such as a hand candle, a candlestick, a paper lantern, or a lantern to provide light. This is written as "ro-soku" and is usually read as "candle," but it was also called "rassoku" (Manjuyabon Setsyoshu). The words "rassoku" and "rachoku" were used in parts of Okayama Prefecture and Iwate Prefecture until recent years. Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
