A Paleolithic site in the Dordogne department in southwestern France. The name Magdalenian period or Magdalenian culture is derived from this site. Larté excavated the site in 1863-64 and found a bone rod with a mammoth engraved on it, which he attributed to the Paleolithic period, but other specialists could not agree. Later, Peyronny excavated the site in 1911-12 and found many javelins and baton batons. [Kimura Shigenobu] Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
