Born: August 1, 1835. [Died] January 16, 1877. Moscow Russian novelist. While studying at the St. Petersburg Medical Academy, he was exiled to Siberia for participating in student protests. Many of his works are strongly influenced by revolutionary democracy. His main work is "Punishment" (Rasprava) (1862).
