Le Thanh Tong (English spelling)
1442‐97
The fourth emperor of the Le Dynasty of Vietnam, reigned 1460-97. He is also known as Hong Duc (Emperor Hong Duc) after the era name. He perfected the Chinese-style centralized system. In 1459, a dispute arose within the court, and Nghi Dan (Yimin), King of Lang Son, killed the third emperor, Nhạn Tân (Renzong), and seized the throne. In 1460, a coup by various ministers dethroned Nghi Dan, and his younger brother, Thanh Tân, ascended to the throne. In 1466, Thanh Tân actively introduced the Ming system, establishing the six provinces and six temples system at the center and the systems of imperial courts, prefectures, provinces, prefectures, and shrines at the local level, strengthening the emperor's rule.
