Biography

They formed the five-member girl group KARA. The other members are Gyuri (leader), Jiyeon, Seungyeon, and Hara. Their nickname is "Kol." The group name KARA means "sweet melody" and was named by the leader Gyuri. They debuted in Korea in 2007 with the album "The First Bloooooming." In 2009, their hit song "Mister" featured a sexy butt dance, which caused a big boom. In 2010, their single "LUPIN" won the top spot on all three of Korea's major music shows, making them a national idol group. In Japan, they debuted with the single "Mister" in August of the same year, and about 10,000 people came to the handshake event to commemorate the release. In the Oricon New Artist Sales category that year, they beat out fellow Korean girl group Girls' Generation, and made 1.3 billion yen in sales, ranking first. They also won the Planning Award at the Record Awards at the end of the year, sparking a "K-POP" boom. In 2011, she appeared in her first lead role in the TV Tokyo drama series "URAKARA" broadcast in both Japan and Korea. Other singles include "Jet Coaster Love" and "GO GO Summer". She left the group in March 2014. She is originally from the United States and is fluent in English.

5人組ガールズグループのKARAを結成。他のメンバーは、ギュリ(リーダー)、ジヨン、スンヨン、ハラ。ニックネームは“コル”。グループ名のKARAは“甘いメロディー”という意味を持つ言葉で、リーダーのギュリが命名した。2007年アルバム「The First Bloooooming」で韓国デビュー。2009年のヒット曲「ミスター」ではお尻をセクシーに振る“お尻ダンス”を披露し、大ブームになった。2010年シングル「LUPIN」が韓国3大歌謡番組のヒットチャートで全て1位の3冠を達成し、国民的アイドルグループとなる。日本では、同年8月にシングル「ミスター」でデビューし、発売記念握手会には約1万人が駆けつけた。同年のオリコン新人セールス部門では同じ韓国ガールズグループの少女時代を抑え、13億円を売上げ第1位。年末のレコード大賞で企画賞も受賞するなど、“K-POP”ブームを巻き起こした。2011年日韓を通じて初主演のテレビ東京系連続ドラマ「URAKARA(ウラカラ)」が放送される。他のシングルに「ジェットコースターラブ」「GO GOサマー」など。2014年3月グループを脱退。米国出身で、英語が堪能。
