After serving as organist in Bergamo and conductor at the church of Ferrara, he moved to Venice, where he became conductor at the Mendicanti Charity in 1672 and at the Basilica of St. Mark in 1685. He was Vivaldi's teacher. In addition to operas and oratorios, he left behind excellent works in the form of trio sonatas.
