A perennial plant of the Ranunculaceae family (APG classification: Ranunculaceae). The stem is 40-80 cm tall. The leaves are round, glossy, trilobed, and sharply serrated. The bright yellow flowers are about 4 cm in diameter, and bloom one at a time at the end of a branched stem in July-August. There are five petal-like sepals, but there are more petals than this. The petals are about 2 cm long and longer than the stamens, unlike the other species, Trumpeta chinensis, which grows in the alpine zone. The presence of small but distinct petals between the sepals and stamens is a characteristic of the Trumpeta genus, while the marsh marsh, which looks very similar, is a different genus and does not have petals. It grows in moist forest edges, grasslands, or marshes in mountainous areas, and is distributed in the Chubu region and Mt. Ibuki in Shiga Prefecture. It is named after its golden-colored flowers which resemble plum blossoms.

キンポウゲ科（APG分類：キンポウゲ科）の多年草。茎は高さ40～80センチメートル。葉は円形で光沢があり、3全裂し、鋭い鋸歯(きょし)がある。花は鮮黄色、直径約4センチメートルで、7～8月、分枝した茎の先に一つずつ開く。5枚の花弁状の萼片(がくへん)、これより数の多い花弁がある。花弁は高山帯に生育する別種シナノキンバイとは異なり、長さ約2センチメートルで雄しべより長い。萼片と雄しべとの間にこのように小さいが明瞭(めいりょう)な花弁のある点がキンバイソウ属の特徴であり、外見上よく似たリュウキンカは別属で、花弁がない。山地帯の湿り気の多い林縁や草原、あるいは湿原に生え、中部地方および滋賀県伊吹(いぶき)山に分布する。黄金(こがね)色でウメに似た花をつけるのでこの名がある。
